Learning your cat behaviors before you begin training them is a great idea!

Whenever we want to learn something new, the first thing we do is learning about it, in order to make the process of learning go smoothly and easily. learning cats' behavior before start training them is no exception.

In this article we are going to tackle three major aspects of cats' behaviors, that might help you shape a clear idea of what and how you are going to train your cat. having an idea about the cat's bones structure, cat's senses -namely hearing and smelling-, and some behavioral changes are the keys to understand your pet's behavior better and thus acting according to it.

Cats have a unique bone structure compared to other animals.  as they do not have collar bones, the flexibility of their body allows them to twist and jump a considerable distance without being injured. with such behavior, you can teach your cat to jump hoops,  sticks,  and even off the scratching tree, but do not let your cat jump extreme hights because it may cause him injuries. one thing to keep in mind is that jumping and landing on its feet is a natural instinct for cats.  kittens are not born with developed cushion in its paws, it takes 7 weeks approximately to develop the cushion in the kitten's paws for landing.

The second point you should know about is how your cat is using his hearing and smelling sense. the unique hearing ability of cats, enable them to hear high tones and pitches, such as opening doors or can of food. moreover, the cat's smelling abilities are distinctive. if you have noticed that your cat is scratching the floor or urinating on it,  rubbing itself against the furniture or a door, it means your cat is marking its territory by leaving its scent in those areas. through these behaviors, your cat will know that he was there when he comes back again to that place. also, it is his way to know if other cats or animals were there.  cats also have the ability to smell with their mouth. in the cat's upper mouth, there is a gland filled with blood called " Jacobson's organ". when the cat smells a scent and opens up his mouth slightly, the scent will be carried into this gland this later will carry the scent to the cat's brain. this is usually related to male cats when a female has urinated.

The third point you should consider when you are trying to adopt a certain behavior training for your pet is to let your cat play out its natural instincts and behaviors. if you started your cat's training but you have noticed certain behavior changes, such as aggression or depression and anxiety, make sure to take him to his vet for a check-up. whether the aggression is a result of an illness or depression and anxiety are the result of being separated from an owner, or other cats in the home, your vet will prescribe medications that can help your cat.

There are certain behaviors you should avoid, to help your cat in his training. the first thing to avoid is hitting your cat as a punishment if he does something wrong, do not never punish your cat, because he will learn to fear you and if he developed this behavior, it will difficult to control it. now if your cat did something wrong you have two options:  whether to forget about or to associate the noise with this behavior like you say  (NO) in a stern voice.

The best thing you can do if you want to train your cat is to start to train them the moment you get them, by doing so you will able to stop the development of many unwanted behaviors. bear always in mind that healthy and happy cats are the result of a happy and healthy relationship with their owners.
