 local media in aruna , reported that the cat who who has been  held at Welikada High Security Prison in Sri Lanka on suspicion of smuggling drugs to inmates has escaped. The feline offender was arrested last week with two grams of heroin, two SIM cards, and a memory chip hidden in a plastic bag attached to his collar on the prison grounds.

Police suspect the drug traffickers who trained the cat, to be a part of the same cartel that was caught using an eagle to smuggle drugs through a Colombo suburb. The accomplice menagerie has been associated with underworld crime boss Angoda Lokka.

 according to local media,Lokka died while hiding from authorities in early July 2020. moreover, the New indian Express reported that a  man and woman, aged 30 and 19, were arrested Sunday for illegally cremating him and forging identity documents.

Although there is no stipulation for the arrest of animals under Sri Lankan law, police were hoping the cat could lead them to the smugglers' den. media reports suggest that The cat allegedly swindled out of his detention room and escaped through a fence when prison guards came to feed him.

Last week, police raided a farm owned by a Lokka associate and found an air rifle, bullets, and the eagle previously seen delivering drugs.

Prison officials said that  they have seen an increase in the number of people attempting to smuggle drugs, cell phones ,and chargers into the prison in recent weeks, allegedly to sell into the prison system.

Authorities declared that they are not looking for the narco cat.
